About Katherine
Katherine Foxall is a classical soprano based in South Wales and is currently studying in the School of Vocal Studies and Opera at the Royal Northern College of Music. She was born in Connecticut, USA, and was raised in Swansea, Wales. While music has always been a significant part of Katherine's life, she believes that her move to Wales, the land of song, made her fall in love with it.
During her formative years in Swansea, Katherine gained her first experiences in the music industry as a member of various youth theatre groups. Musical theatre was and still is a considerable passion in Katherine's life, with her repertoire still consisting of many musical theatre classics. While in school, Katherine competed in numerous school-led Eisteddfods and won with performances of musical theatre and Welsh songs.
It was only when she began at Gower College Swansea (GCS) in 2021 that Katherine's music career truly began. She was being taught by opera singer Stephanie Smith, which was her introduction to classical singing. In her first year, Katherine did many small performances as a soloist in churches across Swansea, as well as with GCS. These experiences solidified her desire to pursue a career in music. From August 2022 to September 2023, Katherine had the privilege of being taught by Linda Kitchen. Under her guidance and mentorship, Katherine's auditions for conservatoires the following academic year resulted in Katherine accepting a place at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Early on in her second year at GCS, Katherine performed as a soloist in various prominent concert venues, including the Taliesin Arts Centre and the Swansea Arena. Then, in February 2023, Katherine became an ongoing member of Loud Applause Rising Stars. With the organisation, she has had the opportunity to perform in many LARS events across South Wales, as well as the 2023 Dinas Powys Music Festival.
As well as being a soloist, Katherine was a choral scholar with the Swansea Philharmonic Choir from 2021 - 2023 and, since February 2024, has been an ongoing member of the renowned Hallé Choir, her first performance being Schostakovich 3 in Bridgewater Hall. She has been a member of the National Youth Choir of Wales since 2022 and has performed in venues such as Llandaff Cathedral, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Prichard-Jones Hall and St. David's Cathedral.
Katherine began her training at the Royal Northern College of Music in September 2023, where she is currently in her first year of an undergraduate degree. She is taught by Sarah Rhodes and explores a wide range of classical repertoire.
